Today I woke up a LOT more tired than yesterday. Last night all the kids earned a late bedtime and were SO excited for it. In fact, both kids wrote about it as a topic in their diary today. Apparently I forgot what a luxury it is to have something like that to look forward to when you’re little! After everyone was in bed, Jon and I realized how much simpler life is. We didn’t have any bible study to run off to, no Krav Maga for him, no lunches to be made. Technically we could have gone straight to bed after the kids.
But, we didn’t. I decided to start watching How I Met Your Mother on Sunday night. We watched it back pre-kids (I think we were actually the same age as them when we watched it, when it started) and it’s so odd to look back on that set of lifestyle now, as a mom to 3 with 2 jobs and a mortgage. So weird.
Today’s school (it’s almost over) has gone better. My day job was less intense (thank you Lord!) and the kids seemed to do much better on their own. Ryan even traced letters while the big kids did worksheets and then we worked together on doing matching in his workbook. One of the things we have to work on is his pen skills. He doesn’t like to trace or hold a pencil/crayon and having him do a non-preferred task is really important and the fact he saw his siblings working, and chose to do that task IS AMAZING!!!
I have been LOVING the different areas of our global community sharing via Facebook & YouTube live. Right now the kids are watching a Live video from the Cincinnati zoo and previously watched a doodle session with Mo Willems! (Each are linked by clicking their name for their YouTube channels)
When I was at the Dollar Store on Friday, I grabbed a container of play-doh to use with the kids. Today was the day and while I was working on emails and Ryan was napping, I’d call out something for the big kids to make. Then Aubrey asked me to post them on Instagram for voting. I put them on Facebook and wouldn’t you know it – THEY TIED! Every time!!
We still have one more day to learn about California before we do a FaceTime with a friend – Sabrina. We watched 2 videos yesterday and will re-watch them today because they are full of so much information. Luke wanted to draw out our state and he did a pretty amazing job!
Last video they’ve really been enjoying are the Art For Kids Hub drawing videos. Today, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, they drew Leprechaun Puppy! So adorable.
Last but not least, when we started this So Now We Homeschool adventure, we created countdown chains to help visualize when the kids could go back to school. They each made their own. Luke wanted to sort his colors and Aubrey liked mixing them up. Each morning they wake up, tear off a link, and start their day!
